In most games, heteronormative content is the standard ( Ruberg, 2019), but the stereotype of a typical gamer no longer applies with such a broad reach of the types of players. Meanwhile, the nature of video games has changed significantly in the past decade, offering complexity, diversity, realism and shedding light on social issues. The gender divide between male and female gamers has been getting closer in many parts of the world, such as Asia ( Partners, 2020) and the USA ( Clement, 2021). It was reported that over 2.69 billion people worldwide played video games in 2020 with an expected increase to 3.07 billion by 2023 ( Gilbert, n.d.).
